Every Electronic hobbyist needs one of these , and if you have a transformer laying around , here is a quick and cheap variable PSU you can build yourself , I added a digital voltage display so I wouldn't have to use the multi meter. I have used a 19 volt 3 amp transformer , this is above the specs so a good heat sync and fan have been added. The pictures show the build in various stages. This Variable Power Supply Kit has proved invaluable for testing led's , powering anything that runs on 1.5 to 24 volt DC. Here is the kit that I built ,
You can purchase the kit here.
3068 - 1.5-30Vdc/1.5A Regulated Variable Power Supply
Variable Power Supply Kit |
This kit will provide a regulated, variable 1.5 - 30Vdc/1.5A power supply from an unregulated input by using the popular three pin LM317T regulator. You can select any voltage between 1.5 to 30Vdc using the onboard potentiometer*.
Either AC (25Vac maximum) or DC input (35Vdc maximum) can be connected to the kit via the jack socket or terminal block. The input voltage can be from either a transformer or unregulated plug pack (not supplied).
* The input voltage needs to be 2-3V above the required output voltage for proper operation and with a current rating sufficient for the current to be drawn which is a maximum of 1.5A.
The kit is supplied with a heatsink, 2A bridge rectifier, smoothing capacitors, potentiometer, PCB mounted ON/OFF switch, input/output screw terminal blocks and an input jack socket.
